Pakistan celebrated its 78th Independence Day last week. However, celebrations were not ubiquitous. The nation is divided on so many fronts. Many in society feel betrayed. People are frustrated because, during the 78-year journey, somewhere along the way, the original vision for creating this country has been sidelined.
Pakistan was created in the name of Islam. Under Islam, transparency, accountability and justice for all are the basics; instead, Pakistan has become the world’s leading corrupt nation. Still, a downward spiral continues unabated. Some may argue that in the last few decades, the speed of decay has accelerated. On the corruption scale, Pakistan is the 135th least corrupt nation out of 180 countries.
Pakistani people realise that, had there been justice and accountability in Pakistan, the country would have become a welfare state by now, just like England. Instead, the wealth is syphoned off by the corrupt ruling elites. It is the rich elite that is subsidised in Pakistan, not the poverty-stricken citizens.
After 78 years of independence, the result is that no segment of society is immune to the cancer of corruption. The prognosis is poor.
- People have surrendered to corruption and believe it is extremely difficult to survive in such an environment without bending the rules. Halal earnings only lead to poverty.
- The scholars are busy calling each other ‘Kafir’ and dividing the people along the lines of sectarianism.
- The bureaucrats’ main source of income is bribes.
- The judiciary system is based on corruption.
- The parliamentarians are corrupt and increase their wealth through bribes.
- The level of corruption among the higher ranks of the military is just as bad as the rest of society.
- The police are on the payroll from illegal sources and demand bribes from the victims.
- The education system is producing obedient and compliant graduates. Vulgarity and corruption are rife in most universities.
- The health system is broken; the medical consultants attend government hospitals mainly to direct patients to their private clinics.
- The media’s modus operandi is to increase its audience through propaganda and vulgarity.
What was a utopian dream in 1947 has become a dystopian nightmare by 2025. The whole society has become sick to the core, and everyone is busy worshipping materialism. These are not the signs of a morally healthy society nor a brighter future.
Self-Immolation of Pakistan?
Is Pakistan on a path towards self-immolation? And why is nobody trying to steer the country away from self-destruction?
Pakistan certainly has had ample opportunities to change direction and to reform during the past 78 years; sadly, the rulers preferred to maintain the status quo on each occasion. However, the laws of nature are unrelenting. When you refuse to bring the necessary changes peacefully, then nature will deliver the changes forcefully.
Despite the resistance from the ruling establishment, there were two occasions when serious attempts were made to change course for Pakistan. On both of these occasions, the principal idea was to bring about changes peacefully from within.
The first attempt was made by a religious political party, Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan. The party was founded by Syed Abul A’la Maududi in 1941, British India. Originally, it was a welfare and socio-political organisation. Syed Abul A’la Maududi thought that through the democratic system, the party could bring about changes. Others in his close circle, such as Dr Israr Ahmed, disagreed.
Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan claims to have brought positive economic results while in power in Karachi in the 1990s, and then while power-sharing with PTI in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
However, the Pakistani junta never allowed Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan to get too close to power.
The second attempt to change the system peacefully from within was made by a secular party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. Imran Khan, a cricketer turned politician, established the party in 1996. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf were in power between 2018 and 2021. However, too many of their members of parliament came from the old school. The PTI government was not immune to corruption.
Despite all, Imran Khan did try to bring some positive changes, such as free medical treatment for the weakest in society. His modus operandi was not acceptable to the junta or their masters. His coup d’etat was ordered by the globalists.
The Pakistani establishment is a vassal of the global establishment – the globalists. Currently, the Pakistani junta is carrying out an anti-terrorism military operation in Bajaur region. Thousands of people have been made homeless. Pretty soon, the empty areas will be handed over to the international mining companies to plunder.
Before the creation of Pakistan, the East India Company’s modus operandi was to plunder the wealth and take it to London. After 78 years, nothing has changed, and the current rulers plunder the wealth and take it abroad, mainly to Europe and America.
Changes are long overdue for Pakistan. Alas, the rulers prefer fooling the people with illusions of democracy but refusing to allow peaceful changes. The deceit and lies can only go so far. Eventually, the laws of nature will deliver the necessary changes, and the ruling elites will be removed from power forcefully.
Happy 78th Independence Day!
