The Peacemakers
Just over two years ago, on the 10th of March 2023, China played its role as a peacemaker and mediated an agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia to re-establish diplomatic relations. The world media was surprised by this sudden development, as the Saudis were always seen as puppets of America. The Americans always sought to create discord between Iranians and Arabs as part of their divide-and-rule policy in the Middle East.
Recently, Donald Trump made a trip to the Middle East. The media focused on the major business deals snapped up by the Trump team. But was the trip purely about business only? A closer scrutiny of the geopolitical events suggests something much bigger was at play behind the scenes.
Has Trump Undone the Peace Agreement?
Before going on his trip to Saudi Arabia, Donald Trump parked four B-52 and six B-2 bombers on the island of Diego Garcia. These planes are not there without a purpose, and that purpose is not gunboat diplomacy.
Remember it was Donald Trump who, during his previous tenure, withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), on May 8, 2018. Now the Trump team has been negotiating with Iran for many months. The purpose of these new negotiations is not to seek a new peace deal but to provide an excuse for an attack on Iran.
There is only one problem. America is bankrupt and has a huge debt problem of over $37 trillion. It cannot fund another war. This required a trip to the Middle East, or shall we say to the ATM. The gullible Arabs did not disappoint Donald Trump’s war funding campaign. He managed to withdraw over 2 trillion from the American ATM.
You may have noticed that Donald Trump did not visit Israel during this trip. Many people think the Americans side-lined Netanyahu. On the contrary, the trip was intended for funding of Israel’s wars, and particularly the next war Israel so much covets against Iran. The timing is everything.
Did the Arabs Shoot Themselves in the Foot?
Donald Trump certainly reignited the US–Saudi alliance, but did he manage to reignite Iranian-Saudi animosity too? He must have discussed the forthcoming attack on Iranian infrastructure with the Arabs, and they chose to give billions despite knowing that a war in the region is imminent.
It seems that Trump’s team sold the illusion of security to the Arab regimes and convinced them that they would remain in power for the foreseeable future. Convinced of Trump’s promises, they handed over billions.
So, if and when America and Israel do attack Iran, will Donald Trump’s trip be taken into consideration by the Iranians? Will Iranians, when retaliating, choose to spare the Arabs?
Arabs have brought a new calamity upon themselves. Will the unfolding scenario lead to another round of Arab-Iran wars, or will the regional players see common sense and avoid more destructive war in the region?
